Situation
of the Corncrake in the European Countries |
|
|
| The corncrake is one of 17
bird species breeding in Europe which are globally threatened. In
most of its range countries a clear population decline is to be found.
Nevertheless, corncrakes breed in 34 European countries, almost exclusively
in man-made, managed grasslands. The decline is a result of low breeding
success due to intensification of grassland management. Can the corncrake survive in the long term? This depends on whether it will be possible to maintain or reinstall the traditional extensive management systems which are corncrake friendly. To enable effective conservation action to be implemented BirdLife International has developed a European wide corncrake Action Plan. The text of this Action Plan for the Corncrake in Europe can be found in rtf-format (readable with all wide-spread word processing programmes): uncompressed (300 kB) / zip-compressed (59 kB) |
